Demonstrators storm British Embassy in Tehran, take six staff hostages

Six staff have been taken hostage after demonstrators stormed the British Embassy building in Tehran. The Iranian authorities say that they had nothing to do with the incident, and that the demonstrators made their move so quickly that they could not be stopped by security forces.

The invasion of the building occured after normal business hours were over, with firebombs being thrown, windows smashed, and gangs ripping up and burning documents. The identities of the six staff who have reportedly been taken hostage have not been revealed, and there is conflicting information about where they are being held within the building.

The drama comes just days after Tehran voted to downgrade diplomatic relations with the UK in the wake of continuing tension over allegations that Iran has been working on a nuclear weapons program.
