New Huckleberry Finn Google doodle marks Mark Twain’s 176th birthday

Google has a new doodle up to mark Mark Twain’s 176th birthday. It’s a full width drawing based on Twain’s classic novel Huckleberry Finn and although it’s one of the most conventional doodles for a while, it’s also arguably one of the most beautiful.

Twain himself would likely have had something very witty to say about the whole thing. The legendary American humourist was known during his lifetime for being unafraid of innovation and technological change, so we can only imagine how he would have taken to the online world.

There’s no particular reason why Twain’s 176th birthday is particularly special. Google’s decision-making process for the doodles is something of a mystery and seems at times to be pretty random.
