Prank caller Captain Janks allegedly hits CNN claiming to be released US student Gregory Porter

A legendary prank caller appeared to strike CNN this week, pretending to be Gregory Porter, one of three US students allegedly arrested briefly in Cairo during the recent demonstrations. Speaking to CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield, Captain Janks allegedly gave thanks to “the North Shore Animal League” and to “Baba Booey’s monkey nuts”.

In the call, the voice of a man (who sounds like he’s in his 40s or 50s) discusses the situation in Cairo before making some strange comments and, it seems, hanging up. And it seems that neither Gregory Porter or his representatives had any idea that an interview was planned.

Captain Janks has been prank-calling radio and TV news shows for more than a decade. Pretty much all the major news organisations in the US have been successfully targeted by him at some point. While some people have suggested that the CNN incident might have been someone impersonating Captain Janks, others think that one of America’s most famous pranksters might have struck again
