Is Herman Cain going to quit the Republican presidential race? He told Fox News on Wednesday that his family is his number one priority and that he’ll make a decision in the next few days. In the meantime, however, his campaign certainly seems to be going full-steam ahead.
Cain says that he is the victim of ‘character assassination’. He denies allegations of an affair with a woman named Ginger White, and he says his wife loves him even though she has taken an ’emotional toll’ as a result of the allegations. Saying that he will consult with his family and key supporters, he expects to have made a decision within a week.
Cain is in a difficult position. To some extent, it doesn’t really matter whether or not the allegations are true, because they’re already splashed across the media. If he’s to have a chance of winning the GOP nomination for 2012, Cain needs to show that he can take control of his own media narrative.
