A Utah man was shot in the butt by his own dog, as the pair were out fishing in a boat in a marshy area of the Great Salt Lake. The owner of the dog was apparently bending over at the time, and the excited dog accidentally caused the gun to discharge.
The man suffered 27 pellets in his backside after the 12-gauge shotgun fired. He called for medical help and was taken to a local hospital. After treatment, he is said to be doing fine. The dog was uninjured.
It’s not clear whether the gun had a safety catch on at the time of the incident, but experts note that it’s not impossible that the dog could have taken the safety catch off before firing the gun.
