Have you been watching the Republican debates this year and thinking that perhaps they’re lacking a little sparkle? That they need something to make them more relevant? That some of the questions are inane and the candidates aren’t given a chance to really set out their opinions? That there’s not enough Donald Trump? Well, if the latter is your concern, then you’re in luck: Trump is to host a Republican debate in Iowa on December 27th.
The debate, which will take place just a week before the Iowa caucuses, is sponsored by Newsmax. And while some on the left of American politics might dismiss Trump as a joke, on the right he has a strong level of support. For GOP candidates, the debate might be an important chance to connect with Trump’s fanbase and try to lure some of them onto their side.
Trump flirted with the idea of a Republican presidential run earlier this year but ultimately decided against it, although he’s recently hinted that he could be having second thoughts and considering jumping into the contest. Will he? No. But could he? Sure. And sometimes that’s all that matters.
