Herman Cain is planning to make a major announcement about the future of his presidential campaign on Saturday, amid continuing speculation that he could decide to pull out of the race.
Cain has been rocked by allegations, which he has vehemently denied, of an affair with a woman named Ginger White. The candidate says that his wife completely believed that he is innocent, but that he needs to talk to her face to face in order to decide whether the stress of the campaign is becoming too much for his family.
Until recently, Cain was neck and neck with Mitt Romney at the head of the polls. But he has fallen back in recent weeks, overtaken by both Romney and Newt Gingrich. Current polls put Cain in third place at best, with some putting him fourth behind Ron Paul. Nevertheless, it would be premature to write him off too early, even if most analysts expect him to withdraw.
