A businessman from Finland claims he has decoded the mysterious Voynich manuscript, with a little help from God. Viekko Latvala says he is one of the few people on Earth who can read the tome, which has puzzled cryptologists for centuries.
The Voynich manuscript is a handwritten 15th century book comprising 240 pages of text and drawings that no-one has ever been able to translate. It is written in a language that has stumped even the most detailed analysis, but according to Latvala it describes various herbs and plants.
Latvala says that the writer of the manuscript didn’t know how to write in any conventional language, so he had to make up his own alphabet. Researchers at the USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering recently vowed to crack the manuscript after managing to crack the equally mysterious Copiale Cipher using computer analysis.
