The A12 in Essex is apparently being plagued by a man who likes to stand on bridges and drop concrete blocks onto cars. The road was closed for a while on Sunday evening after reports that the man, whose identity is unknown, was back in action on a bridge over the north carriageway between junctions 14 and 15.
Last week a 57-year-old woman was hospitalized after a concrete block was dropped onto her car on a stretch of the road near Galleywood. In a separate incident on the same evening, another car was hit by a concrete block from a different bridge. There are now fears that someone is carrying out the attacks deliberately.
Police are reportedly investigating up to 30 similar incidents on the A12 over the past three years, raising concerns that there is a wider pattern of behaviour and a possible serial concrete dropper at work. They are forensically examining the latest blocks and say that although they do not have a suspect so far, pieces of the investigation are starting to come together.
