A new Facebook scam is claiming (falsely) that Justin Bieber has been stabbed by a crazed fan outside a New York nightclub. The scam comes complete with a rather gruesome photo of someone’s back covered in slash marks; needless to say, this is not Bieber’s back at all.
The scam invites users to click on the video, which requires them to ‘like’ it before they can see it. It’s at this point that users are told that they have to complete a survey if they are to see the video. Once they complete the survey, they will find no video, and will probably discover that they have sent out the scam message to their friends.
This type of scam is becoming increasingly common online, but is hard to deal with because it masquerades so well as a legitimate survey. The scammers earn commission for every survey that is completed, and are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their efforts to lure people into taking part.
