A woman allegedly shot her two children before turning the gun on herself in a Texas welfare office this week. Rachelle Grimmer, 38, died from her injuries while her children Ramie, 12, and Timothy, 10, are in a serious condition in hospital.
The shooting occured on Tuesday at a Texas Department of Health and Human Services building in Laredo, south Texas. Grimmer had reportedly just been told that she did not qualify for food stamps because she had not provided enough information. A seven-hour standoff followed before the shots were fired.
Grimmer allegedly also had a supervisor in the building with her during the first part of the standoff, eventually letting him go shortly before 8pm. The fatal shots were fired just before midnight, after negotiators tried unsuccessfully to resolve the situation with Grimmer over the phone.
