Virginia Tech gunman believed to be dead, gun recovered, identity not disclosed

The gunman who shot and killed a police officer at Virginia Tech today is believed to be dead. Police reportedly believe that the second victim discovered at the scene today is in fact the shooter, and a gun has been recovered next to the body.

Virginia Tech has been in lockdown for the past few hours, following the news of the initial shootings. It’s believed that the police officer stopped a car in the area, at which point he was shot. Unconfirmed reports claim he fired back, although other reports suggest he was killed instantly.

There is currently no clear motive for the shooting, and it has not been definitively confirmed that the shooter is indeed dead. However, there are reports that the lockdown is beginning to be eased, suggesting that police believe there is no further threat.
