Former police inspector Tobias Day allegedly kills self, wife and child at Melton Mowbray home

A former police inspector has allegedly killed himself, his wife and a child – and left two other children seriously injured – after a violent incident at his home. Tobias Day, 37, was found dead along with his wife Samantha, 38, and their 7-year-old daughter Genevieve on Thursday evening.

After the alarm was raised by the couple’s 15-year-old child, police forced their way into Day’s house. Two children are now being treated for life-threatening injuries at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre. Police are not thought to be looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Reports suggest that Tobias Day won a number of awards for bravery during his career, though he recently left his job for reasons that have not been made public. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has confirmed that it is looking into the incident.
