Iranian TV claims to show US drone shot down last week

Iranian TV has shown images of what the government claims is a US drone that was allegedly shot down over the country’s airspace last week. US officials have reportedly confirmed to Fox News that the aircraft shown in the images is indeed a drone.

The footage appears to show the RQ-170 drone intact, raising questions about whether Iran truly did shoot it down as they claim, or whether it suffered some kind of technical malfunction. The US reportedly considered attempts to recover the drone but chose not to do anything that might inflame already tense relations with Iran.

The fear for US officials is that the Iranian government will share access to the top-secret drone with the Russian and Chinese governments. The drone is believed to have a number of systems that the US would very much prefer to not have fall into enemy hands.
