Australian music legend Molly Meldrum in critical condition after falling from ladder

Molly Meldrum, one of Australia’s best known musical figures, is in a critical condition in hospital after apparently falling from a ladder at his Richmond home. Meldrum has been placed in an induced coma at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital.

Meldrum is a journalist, critic and producer who has been part of the Australian music scene for nearly fifty years. He shot to fame as presenter of the popular music show Countdown between 1974 and 1987, and as a producer was responsible for hits by the likes of Russell Morris and The Ferrets.

Known for his trademark stetson hat, Meldrum has won numerous awards and accolades and has been described as one of the most important people in the history of Australian pop music. Fans are keenly scanning Twitter for updates on his condition following the accident.
