Prince Philip taken to Papworth hospital with chest pains

Prince Philip was taken to Cambridge’s Papworth hospital on Friday for precautionary checks following reports of chest pains. It has since been revealed that he has undergone heart surgery for a blocked coronary artery.

The mere fact that Philip’s chest pains have been revealed to the media suggests that the royal family is getting more engaged with social media. In years gone by, there would likely have just been rumours and a few non-committal statements from the palace.

The Duke of Edinburgh has generally enjoyed excellent health, apart from a few unconfirmed rumours from a few years back, and royal commentators are suggesting that at his advanced age of 90 he has merely been taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
