Prince Philip undergoes surgery for blocked coronary artery

Prince Philip has undergone heart surgery after he was found to have a blocked coronary artery. The surgery came after he was admitted to hospital earlier on Friday suffering from chest pains.

Although any heart surgery is obviously serious, a blocked coronary artery can usually be dealt with in a manner that leads to no further complications. Nevertheless, at the age of 90, Philip’s health is clearly of paramount concern.

The Duke of Edinburgh is expected to remain in hospital while he recovers from the surgery, and is likely to miss spending Christmas at home with his family at Sandringham.
