VirginMaryWasaMilf tag causes controversy on Twitter

Twitter tags come and go, but one has caused controversy on Christmas Eve after some Christians became enraged over the #VirginMaryWasaMilf phrase, which has hit the top of the trending charts.

For some, the phrase is just a joke, but others see it as disrespectful of one of the key figures of Christian mythology at a time when many people are remembering the story of Jesus. The result of these disagreements has been some pretty strong flame wars raging across Twitter.

In reality, the whole thing is probably a storm in a teacup. For one thing, there’s little evidence to support the idea that the Virgin Mary actually existed. For another, Twitter trending terms regularly offend different groups. Why should Christmas get a free ride?
