Monmouthpedia launched to cover all aspects of life in Welsh town

A new online encyclopedia has been launched to cover all aspects of life in the Welsh town of Monmouth. The Monmouthpedia site is a Wikipedia-based project that aims to use QR codes to help people contribute to the development of a rich source of information about the town.

Monmouth has been chosen for the project because of the town’s rich history, which allows plenty of opportunities for finding ways to develop new interactive ideas. Organisers hope that Monmouthpedia will encourage local people to take an interest in their town’s digital presence and, at the same time, to develop computer skills.

Other towns are expected to follow Monmouth’s lead, and by the end of 2012 there could be a whole host of Wiki-sites about towns and cities. As Monmouthpedia develops, it’s expected to add a range of new features based on users’ suggestions.
