British aid worker Khalil Rasjed Dale kidnapped in Pakistan

British aid worker Khalil Rasjed Dale has been kidnapped in Pakistan. Dale was working with the Red Cross in the south-western city of Quetta when he was taken at gunpoint. It’s not clear whether his abductors are terrorists or a criminal gang.

Dale was reportedly in a clearly identified Red Cross vehicle, driving to work, when he was snatched. This raises the possibility that a criminal gang has abducted him and intends to demand a ransom. No-one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but if there is indeed a ransom, negotiations would likely be taking place in secret, behind the scenes.

Local Pakistan officials are working to try to track down the vehicle that abducted Dale but say they’re not sure whether it has yet left the city. Pro-Taliban groups are also active in the area and there are concerns that Dale will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, whether that is the British government or a terrorist group.
