Campaign aims to encourage people to boycott The Dark Knight Rises in SOPA protest

As opposition to Hollywood studios relentless support of SOPA and PIPA continues, a new campaign is urging people to boycott The Dark Knight Rises (this year’s big new Batman film) in protest. The campaign is based around this Reddit page and aims to hit Hollywood where it hurts by knocking some dollars off the film’s undoubtedly huge box office take.

The Dark Knight Rises is released on July 20th in the US and is expected to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, it will conclude Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful series of Batman films. It’s hard to think of another film on the horizon right now that has ‘Huge Box Office Hit’ stamped all over its face already.

Can a campaign to encourage a boycott of the film really do enough damage to make people sit up and take notice? It’s an ambitious plan, but the campaign doesn’t aim to make people skip the film entirely, just to get them to avoid the opening weekend. It’s early days, and there’s still six months for the organisation to get into gear. Will The Dark Knight Rises be used to send a powerful message to Hollywood?

  4. Some of the comments here are pathetic. But then again I’ve always found the sheeplike devotion of fans to Nolan’s mediocre Bat-franchise to be pathetic.

  5. Only really, is that how pathetic you are to make fun of devoted fans and just let SOPA take away our freedom speech, online entertainment, and grossing film productions and just stand aside like a coward? Hmmm, I’m not trying do anything to hurt your thoughts on this; But please with a little respect don’t say anything if nothing nice to say. In fact say to SOPA for being the pathetic bastards that they are. =P lol

  6. if anything nolan is one of the few directors in hollywood that actually makes good films. If you want to boycott a film, boycott movies from Paul W.S. Anderson. That will show hollywood not to make shitty movies with douche directors that deserve to be downloaded through piratebay; or not see it at all.

  8. What a way to turn people against your cause. Dumb move. Wrong movie to target. Batman will crush your cause. Don’t mess with The Bat.

    • I agree with you all there. Plus Nolan’s last Batman film is in highest resolution IMAX HD with more screening time in it. It’s the movie of 2012, none of you SOPA bastards have chance of making a dent in Nolan’s, Warner Brother’s, Legendary Picture’s, Syncopy’s & DC’s #1 movie franchise. You little shits think you stop something this incredibly huge…? Haha Just stop posting this bull shit about boycotting TDKR and do that the low budget films with crappy 3D, don’t waist our time. Us fans, the companies, and Mr. Nolan won’t you stupid bastards get your filthy hands on this cinima masterpiece and ruin the excitement this July for the its grand epic opening. Just go back to whatever hell you idiots do best and piss off somewhere else in the world; we just don’t care. LOL The Dark Knight Rises will break boxoffice records and surpass any film In History. It’s going to happen even if you like it or don’t. >:)
